Introduction

This is my first year as an ultra marathon runner. I began with the Goblin Valley 50K last October. I am now preparing for the San Diego 100 this October. Most of my training has been in the foothills and on the trails of Mt. Timpanogos. This blog will follow my training.

This past Saturday (August 18), I ran the Timpooneke trail round trip in 4:43:50. This wasn't my best time by far, but considering the conditions, I'll take it. I started just past 6am in the dark with rain and lightning all around. By the time I reached the saddle, I was completely soaked and the wind chill dropped down into the 30's. On the summit, the rain was horizontal. Luckily, the rain stopped when I began my descent, although the cold was still an issue. The trail was muddy and the rocks slippery, so I was more cautious on the descent than usual. The sun peaked out from behind the clouds a few times on the lower portion of the trail, but the rain still came until I was finished.
